Thank You Very Very Much (At Last)!!

Friday, October 8th, 2010

Hurray its Friday!

Since we have been back from our honeymoon, things have been a little hectic to say the least!

It has meant that one little task has been put back, and which I have finally managed to complete – Thank You cards!

Everyone was so lovely and so generous when we got married, we were overwhelmed by how many people were kind enough to get us a gift – we were so touched and we wanted to make sure that we thanked everyone.

We decided to get some photo cards done – because so many people got us gift towards our honeymoon we thought it would be a nice thing to show them what we got up to – so we used a shot from Costa Rica! (not the below one – if I showed you which one it would spoil it haha)!

So, last weekend I finally completed our thank you cards! I am very sorry to all our lovely family and friends that they have taken so long, but they are on their way finally!

Except…er…we forgot to get the envelopes when he ordered the cards, so we just have to go and get some first :-) – but they are nearly there!

Our Honeyfund

Monday, October 4th, 2010

Hello Monday

When we were looking at putting together a wedding list, we knew that we wanted to do something a bit different. We had already been living together so we had all the stuff we could need, and so we decided to do a gift list with a difference.

We used honeyfund, which is a website (commission free which is really hard to find), which let us create our own gift list made up of experiences on our honeymoon.

We could put anything we liked on there, and customise it to what we would be doing.

Here are some pictures of us opening up all our cards (and a few pressies too) – we opened them up on the Saturday while everyone was still there so we could thank them.

Everyone was so generous and we had the best honeymoon ever! Thank you everyone!

Party On! The Next Day BBQ

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Hello wedding chicks

Our wedding day was on a Friday, and so we wanted to carry on the party through the weekend and make as much of it as possible.

We thought having a little party the next day would be a lovely way to say thank you to people, and also talk to people properly, if we hadn’t had a chance to speak to them the day before.

We had a BBQ at Matt’s parents – Robert and Jo’s house. It was a lovely sunny day and we put up a marquee and got the Green Grocers to make us some more lovely food (any excuse!).

Everyone got up early and took all the lanterns and pom poms down from the church and put them up again in the marquee – along with lots of bunting! It looked lovely!

We also displayed all of the table mats that everyone had decorated – they were all pinned up on the wall so everyone could look at them.

Matt’s brothers also did an amazing performance of a song that they had written for the day – it was such a nice thing to do and was really well played – we were really touched!

We finished off the day with a bonfire – having a little party the next day was a great way to say thank you to everyone and finished off the weekend perfectly! Thank you to everyone that came, despite some serious hangovers!

The Friday We Were All In Love!

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Hey wedding cadets!

Little bit on the par-tay today!

When we first met, we used to stay up all night drinking red wine, talking about nonsense and generally having a good time. We used to go through Matt’s itunes library and dance to random songs. ‘Some Might Say’ by Oasis was one. ‘Steal my Sunshine’ by Len was another. But the one we remember the most is ‘Friday I’m in Love’ by The Cure.

So when it came to choosing our first dance, we realised it wasn’t in our nature to have something slow and soppy. So we decided to have Friday I’m in Love. It was fun and it we also got married on a Friday!

It was the perfect choice and after the first verse everyone came jumping in and dancing with us, which was lovely! It was one of my favourite parts. I wanted to put some pictures in so you can see what fun we all had!

Here is me and my Grandpa, who danced the night away at 85! Go Grandpy!

Friday I’m in Love, love

Our Amazing Caterers – ‘The Green Grocers’

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Hello Wedding chicks!

I wanted to give a massive shout out today to our caterers.

When we started planning our wedding, there was one thing we were sure about. We did not want to scrimp on the food. Matt and I are both veggies, and we wanted to prove to people that there was more to veggie food than they thought.

We were surprised at how many comments we got regarding our choice to have a veggie wedding! Comments such as

‘I might bring a packet of ham with me’

or

‘What, no FISH even??’

To us it was a challenge to prove everyone wrong. And we succeeded in a massive way!

We used a local Norwich business called the Green Grocers.

‘The Green Grocers’ is a grocers/cafe in Norwich, and Luke the owner had just gone into catering. He uses only organic, seasonal and local produce and I can honestly say that everyone at the wedding was blown away.

He made us a vegetarian feat, a huge buffet of amazing dishes that blew our minds.  He also made us a lovely selection of canapes for the drinks reception, which was washed down with cloudy Pimms and lemonade.

For desert, he served up an amazing Eaton Mess, and in the evening brought out a fantastic giant cheese board, which was served with loads of nice bread and pickles and chutney.

Not only that, but Luke’s sister Beth was on hand to co ordinate it all, making sure all the tables were set and co ordinating their team of helpers.

We couldn’t have asked for more. They were fantastic!

Bringing Brixton To Our Table Plans

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Hey wedding fans!

I wanted to show you our table plan today – because it was home made and I think it looked fab!

The table plan at our wedding was in the end home made. I had toyed with the idea of getting one made but we just ran out of time, and in the end Matt’s mum said she would do it – and it looked fab!

We named all our tables after places in Brixton. We got a map of Brixton, and then took it to the printers who blew it up for us.

Our top table was named after The Dogstar, which is where Matt and I first met after I had been to a Primal Scream gig at Brixton Academy.

Each table had a photo of the place it was named after, and a short paragraph on the other side of the table card as to why that place is linked to me and Matt.

We both love living in Brixton, so we thought it was cool to be able to include it!

Hope you like it too!

Scribbling the Love!

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Hello Wednesday!

While we are on the Blue Peter vibe, I wanted to show you all our ideas for name places. Well actually, this was Matt’s mum’s genius idea.

So here we go on how to do it!

Step 1: Get a piece of paper for each guest

Step 2: Draw a circle template on each one, placemat size.

Step 3: Cut them out (yes this is tedious I am not going to lie!)

Step 4: Write everyone’s name on each one in felt tip

That’s it!

We then put them on the tables as name places so people knew where to sit, and then we put little jam jars on the tables full of felt tip pens. Inside the menu, we wrote

‘You will notice you have been given a blank paper placemat and several jars of felt tip pens. The rest is up to you!’

All the guest decorated their own placemat, and then afterwards we collected them all up – and stuck them all up at the BBQ we had the next day so everyone could see them. We are going to bind them all together into a book to keep. We thought it was more fun than a guest book!

And before you ask, yes we did get a fairly large amount of rude drawings… boys will be boys eh?

The Mini Members of the Congregation

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Hello Monday!

When we were planning the wedding, we got onto the discussion of children. No, not our own – those of the guests! Matt has a lot of children on his side of the family in particular, and so we wanted to find a way to entertain them so they didn’t get bored. After all, bored children = noisy children!

Of course I have been to weddings before where they had politely requested that no children came. I think this is fair enough – the invites said it really nicely and I don’t think anyone was offended. I think its completely up to the bride and groom really – it’s their day after all.

This week I came across a really good post on the subject by wedding ideas and inspiration – check it out – it’s really worth a read!

We decided to keep the mini members of the guest list occupied with goodie bags. These were put together depending on the age and gender of the child.

For the babies we put in little rattles and shakers. For toddlers we put in things like flash cards and cotton reels and colouring books and crayons, and then for the older children we included fuzzy felts, stickers and make your own crown kits.

Early Learning Centre has loads of good stuff you can put in.

All the kids loved their bags – when we walked round we found them all furiously colouring and threading and sticking! And we think their mummies and daddies liked them too – because it meant they could enjoy the party!

We wrote the name of each little person on their own bag and put them on their seat. We had children there from about 6 months onwards, and we wanted them all to have their own personal little bit of the day.

We also got the older cousins involved by asking them to read the Bidding Prayers in the church, which was really lovely.

I don’t think it would be right to talk about kids at the wedding and not give a special mention to Isabella and Annie. Annie in particular was so excited about the wedding that on the day she woke up and said ‘Is it really true? Is it the day of the marra-arge?’ And she certainly enjoyed herself! Annie and Isabella proved themselves to be the little stars of the evening when they both got up and sang with our band!

The two of them were both up there signing into the microphone, and danced all night! X-factor stars of the future?

Remember these?

These were the home made confetti petals that both mum’s made – aren’t they pretty? Simply collect fallen petals, place on baking tray and dry!

Well – couldn’t resist – here they are in action! Hurray! Photo by Sophie Laslett

The Big Pom Pom Journey!

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Hello Monday!

A few weeks ago I posted about us making our big stack of paper pom poms! I had this idea of covering the ceiling with them – so the whole place looked liked Bohemia.

First of all we had a try out day making them…

Then we had a bit of a faff trying to errect the whole thing, as we weren’t allowed to hang them from the ceiling, so we had to hang them off a series of wires, strung across the ceiling!

Anyway, at last – the finished result! Hurrah! And the best bit? They didn’t all fall down half way through! Wooh!

Hope you like them as much as well all did!

Love
