Bringing Brixton To Our Table Plans

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Hey wedding fans!

I wanted to show you our table plan today – because it was home made and I think it looked fab!

The table plan at our wedding was in the end home made. I had toyed with the idea of getting one made but we just ran out of time, and in the end Matt’s mum said she would do it – and it looked fab!

We named all our tables after places in Brixton. We got a map of Brixton, and then took it to the printers who blew it up for us.

Our top table was named after The Dogstar, which is where Matt and I first met after I had been to a Primal Scream gig at Brixton Academy.

Each table had a photo of the place it was named after, and a short paragraph on the other side of the table card as to why that place is linked to me and Matt.

We both love living in Brixton, so we thought it was cool to be able to include it!

Hope you like it too!

Scribbling the Love!

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Hello Wednesday!

While we are on the Blue Peter vibe, I wanted to show you all our ideas for name places. Well actually, this was Matt’s mum’s genius idea.

So here we go on how to do it!

Step 1: Get a piece of paper for each guest

Step 2: Draw a circle template on each one, placemat size.

Step 3: Cut them out (yes this is tedious I am not going to lie!)

Step 4: Write everyone’s name on each one in felt tip

That’s it!

We then put them on the tables as name places so people knew where to sit, and then we put little jam jars on the tables full of felt tip pens. Inside the menu, we wrote

‘You will notice you have been given a blank paper placemat and several jars of felt tip pens. The rest is up to you!’

All the guest decorated their own placemat, and then afterwards we collected them all up – and stuck them all up at the BBQ we had the next day so everyone could see them. We are going to bind them all together into a book to keep. We thought it was more fun than a guest book!

And before you ask, yes we did get a fairly large amount of rude drawings… boys will be boys eh?

Love

Guest Post: How to Choose Your Wedding Stationery

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Hello wedding chickens!

Our guest blogs continue today with a post from Sophie, from Cards by Sophie Stationery who is here to expert advice on how to choose your wedding stationery! Hurrah!……..

Hi Everyone, I’m Sophie from Cards by Sophie. I’m thrilled to be one of the guest bloggers this week!

As wedding stationery is my passion, I thought I’d give you a few tips on choosing your wedding stationery. Your stationery can, in fact, set the scene for your wedding. It is an exciting way of giving your guests an idea of what your day will be like, a great way to set the scene.

Don’t worry about picking a theme for your save the date cards as you will be sending these early, sometimes a year in advance. So just choose something you like the look of! It may give you some ideas on what you’d like to go for with the rest of your stationery too!

The invitations are the first key step to setting the tone and choosing them may help you decide on your flowers and other accessories. Think about the sort of clothes you love, your ideal décor, and the place where you are getting married. This will help you decide whether you’re going for something traditional or modern. What colours do you love? It could be your favourite colour, or something that reminds you of where you met your partner. Many of my brides chose ribbon colours on the stationery to match the bridesmaids’ dresses and send me a swatch of fabric.

I  had a recent request for a Wedgwood blue ribbon – and of course, managed to match it!

The fonts can also set the scene really well, we offer a choice of fonts from a modern Century Gothic to a traditional Edwardian Script. It is amazing the difference a font makes to your invitation as you can see in the examples. We’ve plenty more to choose from too. You could be slightly different and go for a pocket fold style which includes the invitation, RSVP and information card or the get the invitation and RSVP separately. (You’ll find RSVPs a really good way of getting your guests to respond quickly by the way!)

The choices you make can be taken right through to on the day items, such as order of service, table plans and place cards. Of course, we are also happy to help couples who wish to order just on the day items. The images below are actually the same design, but look how differently they can turn out!

We offer 14 designs through our website at Cards by Sophie , and we welcome bespoke orders too. If there is something you’ve found or a particular item that has become your inspiration for your wedding, let us know. We love a challenge!

If you need any further information or have a stationery related question, please contact me through the website or email me at sophie@cardsbysophie.com

Lovely Lovely, Cards by Sophie!

Happy Thursday!!

I’m glad the week is nearly over… I have been working hard! My wedding is now 4 WEEKS (oh my oh my) away and I am starting to get excited!

So today I wanted to write a little bit about our twitter account.  Before I started blogging, I only had a facebook page, and was never really into twitter at all.  However recently I have really got into ours, because I keep meeting loads of really nice people on there.  One of the people that I have met is the very lovely Sophie from Cards by Sophie.

My invites were handmade (designed by Matt’s mum, who did an amazing job, read about it here).  So when I got chatting to Sophie about her company, I really liked it because hers are all handmade too.  She also customises the designs to match your wedding colours.

I have added some pictures from her collection for you to have a sneaky peep at, but she has a much bigger range on her website.

As well as doing invitations, she does save the date cards, menu cards, order of services, table cards, table plans and lots more.

I love finding little companies like Sophie’s and giving them a shout – in the hope that someone might see them and think ‘oooh! I like that!’ I very much hope you like her designs I have shown today :-)

If you would like to contact Sophie then you can via here.

Have a fab friday!

love

Signed, sealed, delivered…

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

It’s exciting times here in Brixton this week as I have had another exciting development – my invites have gone out!
As Matt thoughtfully pointed out… ‘Wow.  We really do have to get married now’.
Mmmmmm…

Anyway its another shout out for the personal touch, as I am proud to say that our invites were beautifully designed by Matt’s mum Jo.  Jo is a fantastic artist and when she offered to design them for us, we couldnt refuse.

The invites were based on a lovely drawing she did of a vase of flowers, covered in mutli coloured tissue paper. The invite to the wedding was a zoomed in close up of the flowers, the card with our gift list details on (more of which later) was the same image slightly zoomed out, and finally we added an invite to a post wedding BBQ, which showed the original image.  All tied together with a lovely red bow, done with my very own fair hands!

Here I am looking very serious at the very important task of writing them (notice I am sitting on my own here girls… where our dear fiance’s disappear to at points such as this is an interesting question..)!

Making your own invites is easier than you think.  All you need is a large dose of creative flair and a bit of patience, and the printers can do the hard bit.  If anyone else has done this I would love to hear from you!

Jo has been under such demand to do similar work that she is setting her up her own business designing her own range of cards and invites. As soon as its up and running we will add her to our Electric Directory so you can all get involved!

Until then, enjoy the pics!…
