The Bridal Pampering Package!

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Morning all,

Hope you are enjoying your week so far & getting on with wedding plans?!
That reminds me, I really must crack on with my own…

Today I have for you a Bridal dream pampering package. If you live in, around or have easy access to East London, you are in for a super treat!

Virginia Williams is a Beauty Care Studio based in South Woodford (E18). I have frequented the studio myself on many occasions, not to mention I have treated my fiance to an amazing Holistic Massage! If I needed browie points I’d be minted.
He LOVED it.
And I love this haven!

Tracey, now one of our sponsors, who also runs Time Of Life, has an incredible range of Bridal Packages.
She also got married last year so knows exactly how you feel & can completely empathise! Not only did she get married, she married in Suzanne Neville, In Italy….
I will let her tell you more in good time!

Today I bring you two of the Bridal Services the Virginia Williams Skin Studio offers…

“To get a bespoke beauty package at Virginia Williams was one of the best decisions I took whilst planning my wedding. Not only I looked great on my wedding day but also I got these very necessary moments of ‘me time’ during the hectic preparations. It was a relieve to stop for a few hours to have a body wrap, manicure or prescriptive facial. The treatment is so caring and personal I keep coming again and again even though I live over 10 miles away!” Gemma

The Bridal Consaultation & Plan
30 mins, £30

This is your initial consaultation before you start the Finale & Finishes Package.

Your 30 minute consultation is split into four parts:
• Comprehensive consultation;
• Facial Skin Scanning;
• Facial Skin Analysis; and
• Full Body Analysis
“The consultation is supported by a pre consultation questionnaire which can be downloaded from the website, completed and emailed back to me before your visit. The cost of this consultation is £30.00 and is deducted from your final bill. Following the consultation, I work on the best possible treatment plan, regime and timetable to meet your requirements, needs and timescale. I then e-mail or send this out by post and follow up some days later with a telephone call.
The beauty treatment plan sets out a month by month carefully constructed timetable of customised face and body treatments. To make life, planning and beauty management easier I suggests dates and times. I believe in building a close professional relationship with all my brides. I also believe in the importance of working closely with all brides to achieve beauty goals. Brides tell me they love the idea of allowing me to take complete control of this aspect of their wedding preparation, leaving them to focus on other aspects of their wedding plans”

“The Bridal Beauty Service – was fabulous. This service is essential to any bride who wishes to give away some of her wedding preparations – Virginia took care of my entire bridal beauty needs, allowing me tick this off my to do list” Monique

Bridal-Bodied or white dress-Bust?

Sunday, September 19th, 2010

Well, I am exhausted.

I have traded my traditional Lazy-Sunday for, argh, the gym.
I like to run, especially outdoors, this coming from the girl who had any excuse for not doing PE at school. However, I like to eat food more…
I have never liked anything about exercise. I just had to spell check the word….
Sweating, yuk. Heaving, yuk.
Gym? You mean Jim??
I have never joined one properly. I have paid for one before, been a few times, then just stopped. One hangover too many maybe?

The point is this…. I am doing this.
Last year I lost 10kgs! I was chuffed to bits, but this year- since getting engaged- I have put on 4kgs!!! Disaster.
This is not how its supposed to be!!! Ahhhhhh

Its not just because I am getting married & put on weight or that I want to look utterly stunning for the day, but I seem to have developed a need to raise money for charity, by means of using my body to achieve something.
Weird. I know.
I know loads of people do this, but I have never really appreciated it much before. Though I have sponsored them!

It started with my Prince’s Trust stint- The Tower 42 challenge on 30th September, which I am training for. Now, I seem to be entering runs.
I know!!!
My PE teachers would have a turn.

I also want to help raise money for more local charities.
Maybe I am growing up or maybe I am just ready to do something good with my time??!!! Or maybe I have found a way to stay motivated.

I hear people bang on about it all the time- too much in fact, but I seem to have found it for myself.

So, the thing is, I have realised that I can get Bridal Bodied. I can. I just need to find a better reason than pure vanity!
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good, but I also want to feel good.
Anyway, its like a revelation to me!

I recently got shin splints after running a new track in my new home-town. Ouch. But all this fancy gym equipment gives me a chance to do other cardio instead.
This is all well & good, but I like to have some well-being tossed in. Yoga (love it), Pilates (new to it) & Body Conditioning (terrified of it).

A slight warning to those who are NOT so experienced with their leisure centre gym… the receptionists are worse than useless, there are hidden costs & only go if they have Power Plates!

Right, well I am off to eat : )
Finally.

Got any top tips for us Bridal-Bodied to Be’s? Let us know! We need ALL the help we can get!!

Our new Sponsor! James Ruane Photography

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Hey wedding lovers!

We are giving a big new Electric welcome today to one of our new sponsors! Hurrah!

James Ruane is a wedding photographer who is still relatively new on the scene, but not so new that he hasn’t got some fabulous experience under his belt!  As we have mentioned before, we love to support and shout out about new and start up businesses, and James was a perfect example of someone we wanted to share with you all!

We asked him to tell us a bit about himself to introduce you all to him….all photography is by James Ruane.

I’m 34, half Irish and a new hot, up and coming wedding photographer. I live in London with my gorgeous wife and only recently got married in March 2010. It was the best day of my life!

I’ve always had quite a creative and arty background, but my photography habit originally started as a hobby in my late teens after back packing around Australia. I feel in love with the work of landscape photographer Peter Lik and after the tripalways dreamed that I would be a successful photographer one day.

I studied art and design at school and then public relations at university and needing to balance my urge to be the next David Bailey, with the reality of earning money, I spent the bulk of my career working in PR for some of the world’s biggest and best known brands.

After 10+ years juggling PR with my photography career, which literally involved photographing everything from weddings to friend’s christenings and numerous family portraits to new club nights, I decided to take the plunge and chase my real dream. Hence after years of planning I officially launched James Ruane Photography this year and have never looked back since.

I have developed a natural and spontaneous style that goes against the overly posed feel often associated with wedding pictures. To capture how a wedding really feels I like to mix different styles together from reportage to more glamorous shots of the bride and groom that you’d normally find in editorial.

I never leave home without my camera and to my family I am affectionately known as ‘snapshot’, as I love taking pictures of people. This is why I love to photograph weddings. They are a photographer’s dream packed with so much drama, atmosphere, emotion and fun.

Nothing gives me a buzz more than capturing all the spontaneous and natural moments that can often go unnoticed and I work really hard to get to know every bride and groom I work with, so when it comes to the big day, they are much more relaxed infront of the camera.

Whilst I photograph weddings all over the UK, most of my work is carried out in London and the southeast. I have photographed some fantastic wedding venues from castles to country houses and some of my favourites include Hedsor House and Bisham Abbey in Buckinghamshire and Somerset House and Orleans House in London.

You can follow my photography journey on my photoblog. Whilst I mainly photograph weddings, I still carry out various private assignments like portrait photography, christenings, and parties.

I hope like my work and if you do, please get in touch, as I would love to shoot your wedding!’

Rapunzel, Rapunzel…

…. Let down your hair!
Or have it up. Or in plates? Ribbons? Flowers? Cut it short maybe?

I would like to morf into Kim Kardashian’s hair, what can’t you do with all those glossy curls?!

Maybe I would like it lighter, like Jennifer Anniston….

I do know, I want to look like me. But a Princess version.

Here’s some hair inspiration for you! (And for me!)

Check out Hair Styles Up for some great looks & don’t forget Yarwood White or Glitzy secrets to top off your look!

Best advise though would be to choose your favourite styles & take them to your hairdresser.. let them tell you what will or won’t look good.
If you are like me- inbetween hairdressers- get a few trials done, you’re better regretting it now, not later!!!!

‘I’d Like to be a Boho Cheryl Cole Please’…My Big Day Hair

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Hurray Hurray it’s Fri-day…

My wedding tale continues – and today I am all about the hair! All photos by Sophie Laslett (except the first pic which is by my mum).

I was insanely lucky with this. My hairdresser Stuart has done my hair for AGES (since I lived in the Midlands), and I still go back every few weeks to have it done with him. No one in London has ever come close. So not only was I lucky enough that he did my hair (and all the girls and my mum) on the big day, but he came to the wedding too.

When I went up to have my hair trial, I said I wanted to look like a ‘boho Cheryl Cole with a bit of Jennifer Anniston thrown in’. And within half an hour he had done it. No faffing, half an hour and we had it sorted.

I had a little plait across the front (like a picture of Jennifer Anniston I had seen at the Oscars haha) and then he made it all bouffy at the back – back combing it and curling it. I loved it. I added in a couple of lovely little hairclips from Yarwood White and it looked fab.

I will say however that the morning was not without its drama’s… poor Stuart was half an hour late because the hotel car park was in an impossible location that was only slightly harder to find than the holy grail itself… so this led on to a chain of events where all the girls hair was running late too, and so when the flowers/cars/Sophie turned up it was utter chaos, with no one ready and me downstairs in full regalia sorting out room changes and photographs!

So…. make sure you allocate a bridesmaid per thing thats turning up. They can’t help if they don’t understand what is going on and all you can do is stand there looking terrified! So one for flowers, one for cars etc etc. that way everyone is waiting for their own job, and it is easier to control.

Also, and this is REALLY important MAKE SURE EVERY ONE KEEPS THEIR PHONES WITH THEM (including you as I lost mine almost immediately and didn’t find it until the next day) – at one point it was me and Sophie upstairs in my room (which was lovely because I got some nice pics), but no one else! And I couldn’t find anyone! And for some random twist of fate, my room was about a 3 mile walk from reception… which didn’t help!

Anyway. The good news was suddenly everyone turned up at once, including Stuart, to put on my veil. My veil was MASSIVE. My dress was not big, and because I was getting married in such a big venue I needed to add a bit of drama. So I added the biggest veil ever!

This picture makes me laugh – here is Stuart hair spraying my veil up – Mandi from Blackburn Bridal said if I hair sprayed it up then it would stay all bouffy – so here we are in an action hairspray shot!

Note how Cazza is opening Champers. This is EXTREMELY important. My poor mum had bought champagne and orange juice but when all the chaos began we didn’t open it… at the point of hairspraying the massive veil I had gone beyond orange juice and had cracked straight on to practically swigging it out the bottle. Good times…

Another big tip… If, like me you are having ’super-veil’, then make sure someone is on hand to supervise it. By this I mean pick it up.

Alex my MOH did a sterling job until I went out to have my photo taken with the cars after the ceremony… it had rained while we were inside and I trailed it all over the floor and the end got all wet… which made it heavy! She was not impressed I had gone without telling her! This meant that she then had to pick up 1.a wet veil and 2. constantly stop it from going anywhere near my dress!

So always tell your MOH where you are going if it’s wet :-)

Anyway, after half an hour of chaos (including 10 minutes where my mum lost the pin off her flowers – my poor mum, it really was a constant flow of things happening!), everyone was ready, back on time and back on track!

And then we all had a nice glass of champagne.

Then we were ready to start the 3 mile trek down the stairs to leave for the church! Stay tuned….

All You Need is Love..

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Hello Wednesday!

Okey dokey, so…. grand drum roll please…. pictures are back, and here we go – my wedding!  I am still a little bit in awe of how good Sophie’s pics are – she is wedding genius beyond compare!

So I thought I would start with a few pics of me and my very handsome groom… because although it is easy to get tied up in all the details, really it’s all about the two of you, being together, and getting married. To quote my favourite song, in the words of the great Beatles – all you need is love. Yes indeedy! So here we go..

All photography is by Sophie Laslett..

My dress is from Claire Pettibone from Blackburn Bridal Couture, Matthew’s suit is from Reiss.  My necklace is from Yarwood White (so are my hair clips), and I borrowed my mum’s pearl earrings.

I loved my dress (it had a train that came off so it was easy to party in later), which I wore with a big veil in the church, and everyone looked so lovely on the day!

I will fill you in on the rest later on this week. Hope you liked!

Love

Guest Post: Obi’s World of Great Make-Up

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Today our guest blog is from Emma’s very good friend Obi, who offered some time ago to write about a subject she feels is never covered much – make up for dark skin.  We jumped at the chance – so without further ado – here she rolls!

MY WORLD FOR GREAT MAKEUP!!!!!!!

Hi! I am honoured to be a guest blogger on this wonderful site. As someone who was invited to the wedding and given the honour of doing a reading, I thought that this would be an ideal time to talk about something slightly different to flowers and dresses and introduce something which is important to all of us, but with a twist —Make-up for darker skin!!

Like everyone else, I have trawled the shops and websites looking for the ideal make-up which is either a quick fix or a luxurious treat.

Most of the time I have just done with mascara and eye-liner as this is something which everyone can get, but saying that, I have stuck with regulatory black as this is something that you can’t really get wrong.

Finding foundation and powder is something a bit harder as most brands don’t carry colours for darker skin, but fear not I have discovered Sleek Make up which not only features black models but does make up for all skin tones.

Sleek makeup is cheap with 17 – yes 17 – different shades, with 4 colours which are suitable for darker skin. I would recommend Hot Chocolate, Sable and Coffee Bean-if you are ordering online and not too sure of the shade you can buy little testers which are even cheaper.

Sleek also does a range of blushes and lipsticks that are a revelation too.

For the more luxurious (expensive) I would recommend Beverly Knight which again is available in department stores.

Another great brand, which features a lot of different shades, which some of us find difficult to find. Although I have only recommended two brands I hope this helps us girls of colour and if in doubt….. Go au naturel!!!

Falling in Love, a Philosophy…

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Listen Up Team Bride!

Here’s a present for your Bride that she MUST have!
As you will know, I’m a keen lover of all things ‘cosmetics’ & I love to share with you a fab-find. So here’s today’s…

Falling in love, Philosophy.

I first fell for Philosophy myself about 2 years ago when, my now Bridesmaid Harriet, gave me some great freebies from her work at Christmas! Purity, the face wash smells like a spa treatment & the Microdelivery exfoliating wash which I rate as the best facial exfoliator, um, ever. These are in my top 2.
I have made the pics as big as I can becasue the inscriptions are part of the delight!

So as I was browsing Selfridge’s today on a work-related visit (I know, my job’s quite cool), I took the chance to stock up. Not to mention I think its physically impossible to leave Selfridge’s empty handed.

So whilst making my collague sniff all my favourites I came across the Bridal range! Yipeeee!

And the lotion…

For those who have been sleeping for the last 48 hours, you may not know that I became an auntie for the first time on Monday morning, to Joshua James!

Where can you get it, you say??
Well, you can visit…

Good Times.
