What a scortching week its been!! I’m sooo happy its been like this since I came back from my hols!

All this week I’ve been thinking flowers.
I’m not getting married until next September but I have recently been advised to be considering the options! Really? With a year to go??
The reason is, that I have always fancied clay pots of flowers and love the ideas of hanging baskets & bright colours but in order to do this… I need to plant NOW!

Here’s some inspiration for you too!

Beautiful!

I have found some lovely white clay pots for some pink tiger lilies also some bright colour pots from Tesco of some bright flowers & lavendar!

Shake your pom-poms

Morning wedding lovies

I never thought I would hear myself say this, but I am very excited this week over er.. paper pom poms!

I have seen a few images of pom poms in various wedding mags, and subsequently discovered the mothership of paper pom pom making – at Martha Stewart. Visit it immediately for papery inspiration!

I realise that these are nothing new. But as there was a big time emphasis on how easy they are to make – I decided to make a few this weekend in preparation to see if this was true (and also to show all you lovely people my progress)! Years and years ago, I remember watching Blue Peter make a My Little Pony stable out of cardboard that was ‘easy’ to make. Was it? Was it heck. My ponies had no home till the following Christmas when I got the real thing!

And guess what?

It was SUPER EASY.

As I have mentioned previously, I have a whole church hall to decorate, and I am currently in the process of thinking of ideas that fit my ‘1940s Bohemian English country church fete’ theme (ha).

I would say these fit pretty nicely thank you very much!

Reasons why these are great:

1. They make lovely replacements for flowers (and paper is cheaper than petals girls – these little lovelies wil save you a whole heap of cash)!

2. You can make them in whatever colour you like

3. You can make them yourself! Get everyone over and have a pom pom making party!  In fact, that’s what I’m going to do. Pom Pom mania!

4. People will think you are a creative genius.  In fact, as we have discovered they are simples! Martha Stewart tells you how here.

If any of you are working the paper pom pom look at your wedding then let us know – I would love to see more pom pom pretties!

To save you a bit more time in making these – I got my tissue paper today from Party Delights and I got my flower wire from The Craft Company.

Shake them loud and proud!

Petal Power

Hello again wedding flowers!

A few weeks ago I wrote about Shropshire Petals, who do a fabulous range of confetti which I ordered for the big day.

After I wrote the post – my mum rang me up and said ‘Emma!’ you aren’t supposed to order your own confetti! We are!’ and I thought – ‘well I never knew that!’ – and my mum has ordered her own too! Yay.

Then last weekend when I was in Norwich Matt’s mum Jo said ‘Emma! You aren’t supposed to worry about confetti – and look what I have been doing!’

She has been collecting petals from the garden and drying them on a cake cooling tray – and collecting them up to use as confetti!

Now, Shropshire petals are fabulous there is no denying that, but I couldn’t not also post about this amazing home made effort either!

So now we have lots of confetti and have shown everyone here a handy alternative to buying your petals!
Hope you like the petal-ey inspiration!

I Need a Favour! (about 100 to be exact)..

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Hello wedding lovers!

So MASSIVE excitement around my desk again yesterday as another fab wedding package turned up. I think most of my colleagues are now waiting with wry amusement to see what turns up next. So far there has been jewellery, lanterns, tissue paper, and now….. favours! Hurrah!

So when we were thinking about what favours to have (correction, I was thinking. Matt still hasn’t quite understood why we are giving people small gifts for coming to a massive party, but I don’t think men really do get these things) – I wanted to give little seedlings in little pots so that they would last for ages and people could look at them when the plant was bigger and say ‘Ah, remember Emma and Matt’s wedding?’. However when we actually thought about it, I realised they would be a bit of a pain to get them home without spilling them and I didn’t want them to get spoilt.

Then I found Cox & Cox, who have an absolutely lovely selection of wedding related accessories.

The favours were the thing that caught my eye more than anything.  I’m so tired of browsing websites looking at ridiculous bits of nonsense which are supposed to be ‘favours’.   Cox and Cox’s range has got a lot of different bits and pieces I had never seen before.

For example, these mini favour tins are £18 for 24, and you can fill them with whatever you like – shells, petals, or a lovely quote.

I also desperately want these Love Origami (£17 for thirty) and also these famous face masks (£15 for eight masks) – how cool?

And just in case you forget where you are going….this sign is £12 and will make sure you have no waifs and strays!

I found Cox and Cox through a little catalogue they gave away with a wedding magazine, and am well pleased to be using them. If you visit their site there are loads more bits to choose from!

Finally – which favours did I get? I’m not going to tell because if you are coming to my wedding it will ruin the surprise – but will blog all about them after the big event!

Happy favouring!

Beautiful Tents for amazing events… Papa Kata.

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Good morning Tuesday!

In my endless search for the right venue, at the right price, I spoke to a collague of mine who is getting married on 2nd October this year.
She showed me some amazing & unique tents that she was booking for her wedding.
I couldn’t believe I had finally found my dream venue, that’s portable too. I simply loved them.
Very sadly for me, it was not to be.
Whilst they deliver in England, Dover was too far from their home in Yorkshire, but for my collegaue, the Lake District was just fine.

But just because I have missed out, there is NO reason you should not get a chance to have this unusual & dreamy experience.

Introducing, Papa Kata.
“Beautiful Tents for Amazing Events”

“We specialise in hiring out Kåta tents – the tipi style tents that were pioneered by the Sami people of Lapland.
They’re utterly gorgeous, and make for a very different sort of party space than a run-of-the-mill marquee.”

“We set up PapaKåta after trying to find a marquee for our own event. We looked at loads of different companies, but all their marquees looked, well, a bit samey. And we wanted something special.
When we finally came across the Kåta tents, we just fell for them.”

“We love Kåta tents, and we’re passionate about providing something completely different for your special occasion, which is nothing less than it deserves.”

Fabulous aren’t they!
Its not hard to see why I love them for a wedding.. hopefully for yours!
I love the fire pits & different ways they arrange the space.

You can pick a floor plan which tents you want & join different ones together. They do dance floors, fires & benches if you prefer them to tables.
You can also have chill out kungs & so much more. Want a sneak peek? Look at the 360 tour on their site or visit Paka Kata at their next open weekend on 9th & 10th October.

Its flexible for how many people you want to have. As you can see from the pictures.. they are totally amazing!

Back to the drawing board for me, but hopefully not for you!!

The Love of Lilies

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Lilies are my favourite flowers. They have been for as long as I can remember. I get so excited when Rob surprises me with Lilies… I have come home & found them innocently in vases around the lounge & bedroom.
Please don’t think this is a regular occurance!! I’m not that blessed… but there were lilies & tulips from Portabello Market around the house the night he proposed.

I know I would love them to be my wedding flowers, season permitting. As I find them so beautiful & inspiring, I wanted to share them with you today.

The orange lilies are a picture form my garden! I even grow them each year. The white ones haven’t opened yet…

Now these are a very popular wedding flower; and with good reason.
The Calla Lily.
They are perfect in bouquets. Very fresh, classic & chique.

Just need to find a reception venue for all these flowers… lucky I have the ceremony sorted.

Just popping out to buy some to go in the lounge right now!

Mmmmm.

Hello Petal!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

When I started planning the wedding I went to a wedding show where I saw a fab little stand with loads of different kinds of confetti. I thought to myself ‘I will do the confetti nearer the time’. Its now nearer the time. ARGHHH!

So I found the fab company and had another look at what they do! Shropshire Petals is a farm in Shropshire who produce natural petal, poppy head, wheat sheave and dried flower confetti.

They have a wicked little feature called Pic n Mix Petals which has every colour petal under the sun for you to choose from. Have a look at the colours I have picked out…here is blush which is £9.95 a litre…

Here is Candy Floss which is £9.95 per litre…

Here is Cerise which is £14.50 a litre…

and here is Clementine which is also £14.50 a litre.

I have put the images in as big as possible so you can see the lovely colours! Aren’t they fab?!

I have bought mine as a set in the Shropshire box which is a package box for £34.99 with 25 white floral embossed cones filled with 2 different colours of confetti. As I have chosen four colours I have bought two boxes, which are on special offer at the moment – 2 for £60. And it all comes in a lovely box, I do so love a fabulous gift box!

It seems a shame to throw it all in the air really! Can I just keep it and stare at it instead? No?…

Thinking Flowers

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

It’s amazing what you find when you aren’t looking for it!

I was wandering through Brixton Village this week taking pictures for my table plan (each table is named after a place in Brixton), when I came across this utterley lovely little shop called Field.

The thing that caught my eye was these….

The fabulous shop assistant was recycling the empty industrial tomato tins that the cafe next door used – taking the labels off them and washing them out, and using them as delightful flower pots.  They were all round the shop and looked lovely.

The compost they were using was made from coffee beans, again from the cafe next door, by using the left overs from the coffee machines after the coffee has been made.

The idea is the brain child of Lauren Craig, who has put together a little flower business with an environmental conscience, and who specialises in making ethical alternatives to flowers at weddings and other celebrations.  She uses sustainable sources and low impact transport and packaging, creating beautiful displays that respect the natural world.

Look at this amazing hanging decoration she had in her shop (I dont think my picturedoes it justice!)

It is made out of shells and pearls – amazing for anyone with an eco wedding in mind!

For more information on Lauren, visit Thinking Flowers or alternatively contact her at Lauren@thinkingflowers.org.uk

I’ll never stop being suprised by what Brixton has to offer – I love living here! I will leave you with this lovely image from Field

Sherbet Coloured Roses & Candy Coloured Peonies

Friday, May 28th, 2010

The first thing I did when I got engaged was go out and buy a whole load of wedding magazines. I still buy them all – I love buying them!

I bought an issue of Cosmo Bride way back at Christmas time which has an amazing picture as its cover. This was it (image courtsey of the lovely peeps at Cosmo Bride)…

I loved the flowers, they looked like ice cream! All of those sherbet coloured roses – just lovely!

It was with this specific photo that I went to see my florist(s).

First stop was a friend of Matt’s family, Christine. Christine is doing all of our reception flowers and church flowers. She grows the most amazing selection of different coloured flowers in a big greenhouse in her garden, and her brief has been a big eclectic mix of multi coloured summer flowers.

On Christmas Day while at Matt’s families house, we went for a walk and came across an old rubbish tip which has hundreds of amazing old bottles. We collected loads of them and are going to use them to put flowers in. There are all sorts of shapes colours and sizes – some green, some brown, some clear, long short – some are really lovely apothecary bottles. And best of all they were free!

We have all been collecting jam jars since Christmas – my mum has got quite a collection! Again we intend to put a lot of flowers in these.

For my bouquet, the bridesmaids flowers and the button holes, we are using Libby Ferris.

Libby has got a lovely shop in Norwich (pic of the left), and we met up with her a few weeks ago to talk about my ‘candy roses’. She loved the idea and has got to work pulling together gorgeous ideas for sorbet coloured roses and candy coloured peonies.

Thanks to Cosmo Bride for that cover – I just loved it!

Hong Kong Garden

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

I’m all about lanterns this week as I have been looking at loads of different types of light up lovelyness to decorate my reception venue.

I love the idea of having lots of different coloured lanterns, a bit like these ones I saw hanging in India a couple of years ago…

Now, I realise that these are pretty popular and most of you will have seen these before, but I keep seeing these lovely sky lanterns.  I think these would make a great altenative to fireworks, and would make for some very pretty pictures..

I will be getting my sky lanterns from A Party Palace , a fabulous little party shop in East Sheen, London, who have got lanterns galore to browse from.  They also do a fantastic range of dressing up, so if you live in the London area and are thinking of having a themed hen party, I’d definately recommend heading their way!
