Hello Thursday!

I’m really happy to be doing another shout out to an up and coming business that I have used for my wedding today – Ellen Monaghan Jewellery.

When Matt and I started to think about our wedding rings – we both wanted to have something that was a little bit different, but without spending J-Lo Bling style prices! We had done a bit of research on the internet but hadn’t really found anything.

Then fate intervened.  I went away on a work trip for 4 days back in Feb, and Matt was home alone.  He walked out the flat one evening without considering that the door was about to slam behind him.  He got stuck in the hallway between our flat and the outside world, with no way of getting back in!  As he was shouting ‘Help me’ through the letterbox (one person even said ‘Yeah yeah, Im stuck in my own house..’) – Ellen happened to be walking past…

It turns out that Matt and Ellen are old school friends with Ellen living just round the corner!  Ellen passed a sandwich and a little bottle of wine through the letterbox for Matt while she rang the landlord for him… and while they were waiting Ellen told Matt all about the jewellery business she has… and it turns out she has designed many wedding rings!

We had a look at her site and commissioned her on the spot.

Since Ellen graduated in jewellery design at the John Cass department in London, she has worked for a well established jewellery designer while setting up her own business.

Ellen’s hand crafted design led jewellery designs cover everything from rings to bracelets and earrings, and are made using a variety of precious metals and gem stones.  When we went to look at her portfolio we thought she was fab, which is why I wanted to give her a big mention today.

Ellen told me she loves doing engagement and wedding rings because they are so personal.  We had a lot of input in our designs, and she advised us on what metals and shapes would be good for both of us, and what would be a good fit for my engagement ring.  She also does an engraving service… like this beautiful earring that she was commissioned to do for a wedding a few months ago…

I cant wait to see them!

As I mentioned a while back, I am getting my hair accessories from Yarwood White.

It’s my 30th birthday in a few days time (eeeeeek), and my lovely mum has offered to buy me a piece of jewellery from Yarwood White as a pressie to wear on my big day. Yay!

A few months ago, I saw a picture of a hippy girl in a field wearing a daisy chain, and I thought how lovely it would be to have daisies in my hair when I got married!

However, as reality (in the shape of a potentially hot day) means that there is a strong chance I could end up with half a dozen wilted weeds in my hair, I had to rethink!

And, after weeks of looking, I have found the answer!

I went to the Luella’s Boudoir Vintage Bridal Event at One Marylebone a few weeks back, and found a fabulous selection of hair accessories from Yarwood White. 

I found this beautiful pear flower pin to wear in my hair - so I can have my daisy chain after all!

Yarwood White have designed a collection exclusively for Luella’s Boudoir called the Starlet range, which I thought was so nice it deserves its own post.  So stay tuned to see it in full!
