Before I became a bride planning a wedding, I went to many fabulous weddings as a guest, and while I had a fantastic time, in hindsight I never really appreciated the massive amount of hard work and detail that must have gone into planning the day.

I can remember the day when that changed.  Here is me in December 2008, on my way to my friend Kate’s wedding.

It was one little detail at her wedding – a little book that had got a paragraph about every guest at the wedding – that made me see how much effort had gone into the day. It kept us entertained for hours. It was brilliant. I thought it was so good that I am stealing the idea for my own wedding!

It was after I went to Kate’s wedding that I realised how much effort goes into EVERY bride’s big day, however big or small.

So, without further ado, here are ten little things that brides do simply because they care…(all taken from lovely little stories or experiences I have had or heard)..

1.  They sit and look at long range weather forecasts weeks in advance, trying to imagine the weather so that they can hire big white umberella’s for all their guests in case it rains

2.  They ring round all the hotels near to where they are getting married trying to get a discount for their guests if they stay there, and then put in little colour coded maps in with their invites to make it easier for people to get there.

3.  They spend hours putting together a table plan, so that everyone is sitting in places she knows they will be happy.

4.  She  makes little goody bags for the kids to keep them entertained in the church,with crayons and colouring books and stickers.

5.  She  spends hours making little biscuits as favours and tying them up in a little bag and putting them on every table.

6.  She also spends hours tying ribbon round every order of service, in the same colour as her bridesmaid dresses.

7.  She spends even more hours (hee hee a lot of hours here!) writing on little sticky labels the name of the bride and groom and putting them on little bottles of whisky to hand out after the service if its a cold day (with more of the above biscuits!).

8.  She sits and cuts out all the pictures that she likes out of magazines and sticks them all in a scrapbook which she hides from people when they visit but is secretly really proud of.

9.  She sits the day before the wedding putting hundreds of flowers into little jars, to line down the aisle that most guests hardly notice, but which make the church look so pretty

10.  She makes sure that on the day she says hello to every single guest, and makes them all realise how special it is to her that they are all there for her and her groom on her day.

The next time you go to a wedding, have a look at all the little things that are around you, and for a little second smile to yourself, as you think of the bride spending hours making sure each tiny thing is perfect….

…..And then carry on and enjoy the party!
